Position Information & Test Requirements

Clerical

Duties: Typing, computer, phones, greeting

All requirements stated on the job description for a permanent position must be met. Clerical tests are offered regularly by Human Resources. Contact us for a schedule and more information.

Instructional Associates

Duties: Working with children/teachers

Before applying for a permanent position, you must pass the Instructional Associate Test. This test has three parts: Basic English Language Skills, Mathematics, and the Ability to Assist. All requirements stated on the job description for a permanent position must be met.

Bilingual – Clerical or Instructional

Bilingual positions may include 2.5% to 5% additional salary. Before applying for a position requiring bilingual skills, you must pass a specific language assessment test to receive 2.5% additional salary. Bi-literate requirements must be met for an additional 2.5%.

Custodial Services

Before applying for a permanent position, you must meet the requirements stated on the job description and announcement. Tests are offered regularly by Human Resources. Contact us for a schedule and more information.

Short-Term Labor

Short-term laborers are used by the Operations Department as needed and are paid by the hour. Contact the Operations Department at (408) 535-6166 to learn about current openings.

Food Services

The Food Services Department gives a basic skills quiz to prospective applicants for substitute positions. Contact the Food Services Department at (408) 535-6021 to take the quiz. Passing the quiz enables a person to become a substitute.

Before applying for a permanent position, you must also pass the Food Services Promotional Test given by the Human Resources Department, and meet all other requirements stated on the job description and announcement.

Substitutes

There is a continuous need for substitutes (short-term and “on-call” employees) in all areas. All substitutes are paid from time sheets signed by the employee and submitted to the Payroll Department. Payday is the 10th day of the following month.

Substitutes should update their current availability – especially after being released from a long-term assignment – by calling Human Resources at (408) 535-6549.
